Biographer says country star Eddy Arnold dead
Music NewsNASHVILLE, Tenn. - A biographer for country music superstar Eddy Arnold says the singer has died at the age of 89.

Belmont University Professor Don Cusic says Arnold died at a care facility near Nashville Thursday morning. Arnold was just days short of his 90th birthday.

Arnold's mellow baritone on songs like "Make the World Go Away" — a crossover hit on the pop charts in 1965 — made him one of the most successful country singers in history.

He became a pioneer of "The Nashville Sound," also called "countrypolitan," a mixture of country and pop styles.

He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966. The following year he was the first person to receive the entertainer of the year award from the Country Music Association.

WHITESNAKE's COVERDALE, ALDRICH Perform Acoustic Set In NYC
Music NewsWHITESNAKE's David Coverdale (vocals) and Doug Aldrich (guitar) performed a special acoustic set last night (Thursday, April 10) in front of an invite-only crowd at The Cutting Room in New York City to celebrate the release of the band's new album, "Good To Be Bad".

The setlist was as follows:

01. Gimme All Your Love
02. Can You Hear The Wind Blow
03. All I Want All I Need
04. Lay Down Your Love
05. Fool For Your Lovin'
06. Deeper The Love
07. Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City
08. Here I Go Again

Fan-filmed video footage of the set's opening song, "Gimme All Your Love", can be viewed below (courtesy of "TourBusDriver"). Photos and a review can be found at PiercingMetal.

WHITESNAKE will release "Good To Be Bad" through SPV/Steamhammer in Germany on April 18, the rest of Europe on April 21 and in North America on April 22. In addition to the regular jewel-case version, a limited-edition two-disc set will contain an extra CD in a cardboard sleeve, as well as a poster, photocard and sticker.

The track listing for the limited-edition two-disc version of "Good To Be Bad" is as follows:

CD (jewel case):

01. Best Years (5:16)
02. Can You Hear The Wind Blow (5:02)
03. Call On Me (5:01)
04. All I Want All I Need (5:42)
05. Good To Be Bad (5:13)
06. All For Love (5:14)
07. Summer Rain (6:15)
08. Lay Down Your Love (6:01)
09. A Fool In Love (5:14)
10. Got What You Need (4:14)
11. 'Til The End Of Time (5:32)

Bonus CD (cardboard sleeve):

01. Summer Rain (acoustic version) (5:21)
02. All I Want All I Need (radio edit) (3:58)
03. Take Me With You (live version) (7:51)
04. Ready To Rock (enhanced video) (4:19)

Commented frontman David Coverdale: "The new album contains all the elements I enjoy about WHITESNAKE, and more. I can hear moments that take me back to the bluesy, early years of the band all the way through the band's musical history to fully embrace the more electric aspects of where we are now, as a band. I'm thrilled with it and can hardly wait to unleash it on an unsuspecting public! If this is indeed the last WHITESNAKE studio record, then I'm happy to finish like this. It was a labor of love making this record...a joy... and I'm still enjoying listening to it. Can't be bad!"

The new songs, written by Coverdale and guitarist Doug Aldrich (who also co-produced the album with Coverdale and Michael McIntyre) provide a good balance of eight rocking tracks and three ballads. Coverdale feels it's the first "real" WHITESNAKE album in almost 20 years, commenting "It's very butch. Very muscular..."

SCOTT WEILAND Schedules Las Vegas Appearance
Music News
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland will appear at club Privé in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday, April 12. It is not presently clear if he will perform at the event.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will embark on a 65-date tour in 2008 as the band returns from a seven-year live hiatus, according to a press release issued on Thursday (April 3). As previously announced, the trek will kick off on May 17 with a headlining appearance at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio and extend to November. The full slate of dates will be unveiled today (Monday, April 7) at a private event in Los Angeles where the band will perform.

STP will also unveil a new web site and fan club today (April 7). The fan club will offer pre-sale tickets for the upcoming tour to members.

The band will make its first national TV appearance since reuniting on the May 1 edition of ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Weiland was dismissed from VELVET REVOLVER last week, following his announcement that the group's just-completed European tour was its last and accusations of erratic behavior against him by the rest of the group.
WARRANT Announces First 'Original-Lineup' Shows In 14 Years
Music News

Vocalist Jani Lane of the reunited '80s rockers WARRANT has issued the following update:

"WARRANT will appear for the first time [with] 'all original members' in 14 years at The Wild Horse in Nashville on May 17 and Northern Lights Casino in Minneapolis on May 18. This should really be a lot of fun! I encourage all the 'die-hards' to do your best to be at one of these very special, dare I say it, historical shows. Thanks for all the overwhelming support!!"

WARRANT will perform a "plugged-in" set on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline", hosted by Bob Coburn, on Wednesday, May 7 at 11:30 p.m. EST/8:30 p.m. PST. Fans can talk live with WARRANT by calling 800-344-ROCK (7625). To find a station near you or to listen to the show live via the Internet, go to www.rocklineradio.com.

Regarding how it feels performing with Jani Lane once again, drummer Steven Sweet told the Artisan News Service, "It's freaking bizarre." Guitarist Joey Allen added, "It's like a time warp." Sweet continued, "It brings back a lot of memories obviously. Joey and I have been back in the band for the last three years without Jani, so it's like a new old thing again."

Asked if the band has plans of getting back into the studio together to write new material, Sweet said, "Not immediately, but we're already working on new ideas and probably by the end of the year, once things slow down with travel, that we'll get back in and start putting some things down."

Watch video footage of Joey Allen and Steven Sweet talking about the reunion with Jani Lane at the Artisan News Service.

WARRANT will hit the road this summer with CINDERELLA and LYNCH MOB. They will also appear at the Rocklahoma festival on July 12 at the Catch The Fever Festival Grounds, four miles north of Pryor, Oklahoma.
MISFITS: More Rare 1995 Demo Recordings Posted Online
Music News

Punk drummer Joel Gausten (PIGFACE, THE UNDEAD, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN) has posted two more previously unreleased MISFITS rehearsal demos for the tracks "Hatebreeders" and "Angelfuck" at this location .

Like the demos for "London Dungeon" and "Astro Zombies" posted online last week, these tracks were recorded in February 1995 at the MISFITS' rehearsal compound in New Jersey and feature Jerry Only on bass, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on guitar, Eric Weiss on vocals and Gausten on drums. The songs were part of an 11-song demo recording engineered by future MISFITS drummer Dr. Chud. These tracks were recorded several months prior to Michale Graves becoming the band's official singer. At the time of the recording, Gausten had been serving as one of the band's fill-in rehearsal drummers while the band was auditioning vocalists. Gausten detailed his experiences with the MISFITS in his book, "Tales of Horror: The History of The Misfits & The Undead", available for purchase at this location. Additional tracks from the February 1995 session will be posted online in the weeks to come.
JUDAS PRIEST: Dutch Date Announced
Music News

British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST have confirmed a June 22 concert at at Ijsselhal in Zwolle, Holland.

JUDAS PRIEST is strongly rumored to be teaming up with HEAVEN AND HELL, MOTÖRHEAD and TESTAMENT for a U.S. tour this summer. Several unconfirmed dates for the trek were recently leaked via Pollstar.com, the companion web site of the concert industry's leading trade publication.

In an interview with "The Classic Metal Show" (listen to the audio below beginning around the 3:15 mark) which aired on March 29, JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford stated about the rumored trek with HEAVEN AND HELL, MOTÖRHEAD and TESTAMENT, "Live Nation are promoting the tour, and I guess the professional way of dealing with this is to say that Live Nation will be making an official announcement probably a few days from now. But it's difficult to keep that kind of thing quiet 'cause… If it does happen, and it's looking very real, it's gonna be one of the biggest metal shows in the States this year. . . You have to wait for the official announcement because it has to be sanctioned by management and the lawyers in the suits and that other rubbish. But if we get what we are hoping to get, I think it's gonna be an absolutely sensational, killer American tour — 'cause it won't happen anywhere else in the world, this lineup. It'll just be for the States."

MÖTLEY CRÜE To Webcast Press Conference
Music News

The Pulse of Radio reports that MÖTLEY CRÜE's upcoming press conference on April 15 in Los Angeles will be streamed live on the web and broadcast live on the Fuse cable music channel, according to sources at the band's management company. The source indicated that the webcast will be handled by "Microsoft," although it wasn't clear whether that meant MSN.com. The event is tentatively set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will include what's being billed as a "colossal" announcement. Although management has denied reports that the group will be unveiling a festival-type "Cruefest" tour, it did confirm that up to two dozen other acts will be involved.

Some of the groups potentially participating include BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, DROWNING POOL, and CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx's side project, SIXX: A.M.

MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil announced from the stage Thursday night (April 3) during his performance in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida at the free weekly Clematis By Night party that CRÜE will kick off its upcoming tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach.

A 30-second snippet of a new MÖTLEY CRÜE song called "Saints of Los Angeles" surfaced online last week. The track will most likely appear on the band's upcoming new album, "The Dirt", due out on July 8. The title of the record is taken from the band's 2002 memoir of the same name. A single is expected to arrive at radio stations sometime within the next few weeks.

The CD will be the first all-new CRÜE album since 2000 and the first in more than a decade to feature all four original members. Sixx told RollingStone.com this week that the new CD "has the vibe of (classic CRÜE albums) 'Dr. Feelgood', 'Girls, Girls, Girls' and 'Shout at the Devil'," adding, "There's also a lot of humor because, let's face it, we're ridiculously funny."

A Blu-ray Disc version of "Carnival of Sins", a concert document filmed on the CRÜE's 2004/2005 reunion tour, arrives on April 29.
QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS: Performance Footage Of New Song Available
Music News
Video footage of QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS performing a new song, "C-lebrity", on last night's (Friday, April 4) edition of the UK's ITV "Al Murray's Happy Hour"

Together Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers have recorded their first album's worth of material, jointly written and produced. With the title yet to be disclosed, the album is being readied for release September 1, two weeks ahead of the start of the band's tour.

Other tracks on the new QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS album will include "Say It's Not True", previously released at the end of last year by QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS as a special World Aids Day download for Nelson Mandela's 46664 HIV AIDS charity , plus a "first" for a QUEEN album — a cover version. The remaining tracks are all newly written by May, Taylor and Rodgers during the late 2007/early 2008 recording sessions.

With a new album in the pipeline — the first new studio album to carry the QUEEN name since the Freddie Mercury sessions — QUEEN is heading back on the road for a four-month tour, once again in the company of musician/singer/songwriter Paul Rodgers who joined the band for the highly successful 2005/2006 world tour, the European leg of which ended with the band's spectacular London Hyde Park open air concert before going on to play the U.S. and Japan.

In all, the band's tour was attended by more than a million people.

The QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS 28-date arena tour will take in 14 countries in just seven weeks, and take the band to Northern Eurasia, Central and Southern Europe, and the UK, and is expected to wind up at the end of the year with the band's highly anticipated return to South America, the setting of some of its most historic tours in the early '80s.

QUEEN's historic Latin America dates set new world records for the numbers of the audiences it attracted. At the 1985 Rock in Rio concert the band played to an unheard of audience of 300,000 and was watched on television by nearly 200 million people throughout the South American continent.

The 2008 tour kicks off mid-September in Russia with two dates at Moscow's SCO Olympic Arena, moves on into Poland for a massive free concert at the historic Gdansk Shipyard, and then follows a path through Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands before arriving in the UK early October for 6 dates including London's 02 Arena on October 13.

The UK dates see the band additionally play Nottingham, Glasgow, Cardiff and Birmingham with a final UK date at Liverpool Arena on October 18 before continuing on to Spain, Hungary, Serbia, Czech Republic and Austria for seven further dates.

QUEEN's last studio album was "Made In Heaven", released in November 1995 and containing the last recordings with Freddie. The LP became the band's biggest selling studio album, with world sales in excess of 20 million.

QUEEN's "Greatest Hits 1" album has achieved the distinction of being the UK's biggest selling album of all time, having sold a staggering 5,407,587 copies in Britain alone (source: VH1/The Official UK Charts Company. November 2006).

Paul Rodgers' voice is one of rock's platinum assets and as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter as front man of FREE and BAD COMPANY and as a solo artist he has written, produced and recorded some of radios biggest hits.

Between them, QUEEN and Paul Rodgers have released more than 50 albums during their long careers and sold in excess of a staggering 300 million records.
